Over 10 JETAA Tokyo members joined CLAIR members, Japanese ministers and foreign dignitaries to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the JET Programme. The reception, sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held at the Iikura Guesthouse, wrapped up a half-day Symposium http://www.mofa.go.jp/announce/event/2011/8/0816_01.html commemorating the inception of JET on September 8th.
Last Saturday morning (September 25) was JETAA Tokyo's first time to help with the Second Harvest Japan's Saturday Soup Kitchen.
A special thanks to the 5 volunteers who got up early on a weekend, braving the rain and cold, to help out for such a good cause!
Second Harvest Japan (2HJ) is the nation’s first food bank. The organization does not pay for “new food” because there is already an ample amount wasted to draw from. 2HJ collects food that would otherwise go to waste from food manufacturers, farmers, and individuals, and distributes them to people in need such as children in orphanages, battered women and their children in shelters, and the homeless in Japan.
